Watch Your Kids, Seriously!

Today is 21st of December 2012, some said it would be the doomsday. It goes without saying that the prediction is not true, it's just hoax because I still alive and write this article, LOL. Actually I will not write about the end of the world or doomsday, just wanna share what I have in mind about the phenomenon around us.

I just watched a new released movie entitled "5cm." in one of cinemas in the city where I stay now. Ok, in short this movie is about friendship, dream and (of course) love. Simple and nothing weird about the topic, but in the movie there're some scenes that shouldn't be watched by the young/ underage movie lovers. That's the reason why this kind of movie is tended to teenagers (that's what I read on the censorship screen). But gee... right beside me there were two children, they're crystal clearly underage and I guess they're just elementary students. That's so pity because this movie is not proper to be seen by them. Not about the story or genre, but there're some scenes which are inappropriate for them. How come? Even they watched it without adult advisory (at least their parents).

In the beginning, there're so many jokes and humors, so I laughed with almost all of the people inside the cinema, and of course those two children too. The worst part happened when they laughed too much because the actor was thinking about G-string. G-string! Did they really know the meaning of it? I don't get it, what's eating those children's parents so they let their children watched that! They're just kids, and it's not right, it's too early if they knos stuff like "that". Even I (as an adult) have never seen "it" directly, LOL.

I wonder who will take responsibility about this case. This is so serious, how could the children entered the cinema which showed a teenager movie? Where's the power of the rule? How about the bureucracy? What about the management? What will be happen to our next generation if no one cares about this case?

Hopefully, there's no more "idiot" parents out there, who let their children get something inappropriate for their age without advisory. Good parents must pay extra attention about their children's growth including what they learn and what they get.

My 1st Climbing: Sindoro Mountain

“Finally I can see… everything from above, on the high place called mountain…”
(Sindoro Mountain)

First of all I’d like to thank God cause finally I made it… I climbed Sindoro Mountain with my own feet, Yatta!!! That was great, undefined, awesome and cool. Sindoro has hypnotized me with its breath taking beauty. I love it, so much. I got my magic moment there, with the one I love so much (I guess it was the best part).
On 15th and 16th of December 2012, I was there. In advance there were only three persons but in the end there were fourteen! Amazing, I got more friends there, nice. The planner said that we would climb before afternoon, but it was rain. We could do nothing but wait in the Kledung base camp. We started the journey from Watu Gede (the gate to the Sindoro Mountian) at 6 pm, and then it happened… I was shock, like I wanted to lose my consciousness (well maybe because I did exercise not so often) I took a break so many times and my breath was getting harder and harder. I thought that I couldn’t continue the journey but my heart and mind told me to go on. I forced myself to continue my journey, ‘because I didn’t wanna give up just like that. I looked back and saw my lover came (in the same condition as mine), and I realized why don’t we walk together? Unbelievable, step by step, slow but sure we did it. I know that he gave me more strength to go on, we did it together.
Because “snail” mode on, we were parted with the first team and we got lost, nice! We didn’t pass first and second shelters. My friend (the only expert in my team) led us to find the way, we chose the wrong route and unfortunately we took the extreme one. Was it my good luck or bad luck? As my first climbing, I got the hard one, gee… the track was much harder than the right one, we found the dead end several times and had to find another way. I remember it was 11 pm when we took a break and began to think about giving up. I just stopped on the slope, take a deep breath, enjoyed Sumbing Mountain and the lights below from where I stood, and held his hand to strengthen ourselves. We decided to continue and one of us found the right way, we could saw the first team gave the sign with their flashlight. I was glad even though we were on different hills. The sweeper “snail” team reached the camp on shelter 3 at 12.30 pm, and it was cold there. I just thought that my first climbing was too much, but I didn’t mind because it was the real adventure. Lost in a mountain at night and it was rain, sounds cool, LOL.
Because that was my first time, I learned how to survive in a low temperature, how to find a good place to spend the night, how to build a tent (I just watched actually), how to cooperate with others because we’re far from home, and so many things. In the morning I got a magic moment because I could see the amazing scenery from the high place with my only one. Enjoyed the natural scenery, fresh air and sweet sunshine together was one of beautiful things we had there. I do love mountain.

One thing I regret was: I didn’t join the “summit attack”. I was too exhausted so I couldn’t go to the top of Sindoro, I couldn’t see the highest place of this mountain or see edelweiss flowers, so sad. Someday I’ll be back and reach the top (with no wrong track, definitely). For the first time, for beginner like me, reach 2530 meter above sea level (m asl) was good enough.

All of us started to go down at 3 pm, and it was raining. There was no break, but still: slow but sure. We just needed more or less three hours to reach the base camp. Overall, Sindoro as my first mountain had given me a great experience that I’ll never forget. Now I’m heading to my next mountain, Ganbatte!!!

Survival Equipments

Anyone of us knows well that before we do anything we need “preparation”, so all of our plans will run well and we will get what we want. Ok, here I will share the preparation before we climb a mountain. We have to prepare anything we would need to climb a mountain, one of God’s masterpieces I guess… well, read this article and hopefully it can help to do the preparation. We do really need a good preparation, because top of the mountain is not as comfortable as our bedroom, well yeah… it goes without saying ‘aight? Except… you go to the top of the mountain in a suicide mission, you don’t need this preparation, LOL. Ok, let’s check it out…
Mountaineering equipments
We’ll need the mountaineering equipments if we want to climb safely, and comfortably. First, we need carrier, it’s a kind of bag that usually used to climb a mountain. It’s big, strong and safe enough for us. We can bring all of the stuffs we need with the carrier. We can choose the carrier that fit on us including the size, model and maybe color. Second, we need a tent. I guess that every climber doesn’t wanna sleep without a tent, this stuff is very useful. We won’t get wet when it’s rain, we can sleep well and comfortably inside it, and we can place all of our stuffs safely so we can do all we wanna do like take photos and we don’t have to bring the equipments with us. In the night, the temperature on the top of a mountain is not as nice as in our house, so we need sleeping bag. To make it more comfortable we can bring mattress. That’s all the essential stuffs we have bring to climb a mountain, if you climb in rainy season don’t forget to bring rainy coat.
Personal equipments
These equipments are not the same among the climbers, it’s up to them what they will bring. Here I just wanna share generally what we need as our personal equipments. Let’s start from clothes, since the mountain is always has low temperature we need the clothes that can warm our body up. From the top to the toe, we will need winter hat, masker (to cover nose and mouth), scarf, gloves, jacket, comfortable t-shirt and pants, shocks, shoes/ sandals (we’d better use the special one to climb) and the rest you can add whatever you need for your own comfort. For girls, don’t forget to bring sun block/ sun screen, it will help you much, LOL.
Logistics
What do I mean by logistics are food and beverage, we will absolutely need it unless (as I write before) you’re on suicide mission. It’s recommended bring the instant one, because we don’t have a kitchen like in our house. Instant noodle, milk, cereal, hot chocolate or coffee (bring on a sachet), and if you have the equipments, bring some vegetable will do no harm. And the important thing is: water. Bring enough water and there will be no dehydration. Isotonic water is also needed to bring our power back.
Personal medicines
Medicines will be needed for climber who has certain kind of disease, so we have to know what kind of medicine we have to bring. For instance, I have a problem with headache, so bring aspirin or something like that to heal it, as we know in a mountain there’s no doctor unless you bring him/ her in your carrier, LOL.
Cash
Well yeah, sounds weird because there will be no shop in a mountain and we climb it not for shopping. But hey, we still need money to handle something unpredictable that can happen to us. The transportation, accommodation or the ticket (some mountain have an entrance fee) will need our cash. Just keep enough cash in your wallet.

Uhmm, I think that’s all I know about the preparation before we climb a mountain. As a newbie maybe what I wrote is not complete, but hopefully it can help the readers. Ok, wherever and whatever mountain you will climb, have a nice climbing everyone!!!

I really wanna go there

“Not all of the people in this world have been there.
Only them, who have been there, (from different angle) can witness the greatness of nature.
The greatness of one of God’s masterpieces…”

Yupz, I talk about mountain, a place which has so many mysteries. Long time ago, in my freshmen year I told my Mom that I wanna join an organization so I can climb a mountain. Then she said, “NO”. She thought it was so dangerous for me and I wouldn’t make it. And… prank! My heart broke. As a good daughter (uhuk), I just keep my desire deep inside my heart and never talk about it again in front of my Mom. I do love adventure, when I was an elementary school student, I often visited some unknown places with my friends and started our adventure. We got lost, we tried to find the way back home, but we enjoyed it very much. Ahh… those were great experiences. It hurt when I can feel my adventure-soul slowly fade.
This is my senior year, well yeah… it might be my last year in college (ehem, Amin…). I spent my time for about three months in a city (it was a million flowers city) to do my PPL (be a teacher trainee in a high school to improve my teaching ability). I met new friends, so many friends… even more than I expected, and I like them. Two of them are adventurers, and they had climbed so many mountains in Java Island. First, I just gave the “Ooh…”, “Eh, Really?” or “Ih wow!” responses. But later on, those two climbed Merapi Mt and shared their experience to me, they also showed me the photographs and… “WOOPS!!” Something entered my mind wildly, I WANNA GO THERE TOO!!!! HAAAARGH, THIS PLACE IS JUST SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL, TAKE ME THERE!!!! Yes, I was goin’ crazy.
I don’t know exactly, but one thing for sure, those two people had woke my adventure-soul up from its hibernation. How dare you guys?! No offense, I asked their responsibility, ha! They promise me that they wanna count me in if they wanna climb a mountain again, nice! That’s what I mean dude!
The first thing, I have to ask my parents’ permission. For me it is something essential before I do my plan (especially climbing a mountain). Slowly, I told my Mom first. I was so afraid she would say another “NO” to me just like long time ago, but hey! She allowed me, YAY! And she told me something unbelievable, she said she was on the top of Merapi Mt when she was young. What the…?? Absolutely, I have a cool Mom! Honestly, I didn’t know what made her change her mind this time, ehmm… like the hell I care! Then she asked me to ask my Dad. I did it, and you know what? I got my new carrier, and the best part is: it’s blue… yippie!!! And yesterday, my Dad gave me “legacy”, one of his army uniforms (my Dad was an army) and asked me to fix them (of course, if don’t do that it’ll look like a ‘lil snail in a turtle’s shell haha). Then he said, “This is strong enough to complete your adventure.” Whoooa, I have one hundred percent of my parents’ permission in my pocket. (Hug and kiss for them, mmmwah!)
What I do next is set the plan with my friends. On 15th December 2012, I will go to Sindoro Mt as my first climbing. Bless us God. I can feel my spirit is fully charged now… I really wanna go there, to the top of a mountain to be a witness of the greatness of nature, the greatness of God’s masterpiece. Yes, I’m ready!
