They Really Cheated the Death!

Their story maybe unbelievable, but they really happened! Here are 10 people who ever cheated the death amazingly...

Isidro Mejia

He’s nail free today, but in 2004, Mejia was doing construction work on the roof of a house when he fell. The fall didn’t kill him, but the six 3 1/2 inch nails that accidentally shot into his neck and skull certainly should have. He survived because the nails barely missed his brain stem and spinal cord.

Richard Blass

In 1968, the first mafia attempt against this canadian gangster took place. Two hired gunmen entered a bar where he was enjoying some drinks. Although shot at multiple times, Blass was able to escape unscathed.
Two weeks later, Blass was tracked by the mafia in a motel named “Le Manoir de Plaisance”, in a Montreal suburb. The motel was set on fire and three people died, but Blass escaped the blaze. Police investigation indicated arson as the fire’s cause.

In October, Richard Blass was injured by shots to the head and back after being ambushed with his partner inside a garage. The two were able to save their lives by driving through the garage door. Blass required hospitalization for his wounds.

In January, 1969, a bungled bank robbery and a shot cop, put Blass in jail. Within the first year of serving four consecutive terms of ten years in jail, Blass managed to escape. He was caught, thrown back in the slammer, and escaped a second time. With a spurt of freedom, and blood in his eyes, he set out and killed two co-conspirators in a bar, that had testified against him. Everyone else in the bar was locked in and the place set on fire. Three days later, Blass’ death finally came when he was shot 23 times.

During his life Blass was given the nickname, “The Cat”, because of his luck in evading death.

Ahad Israfil

A freak accident at work, where Ahad's boss knocked a fire-arm to the floor, resulted in the gun discharging, hitting Ahad in the head. The shot quite literally blew his mind.

By rights Ahad should have died, but doctors and surgeons at the hospital where he was in intensive care were amazed when, after a five hour operation, the 14 year old regained consciousness and tried to speak.
Plastic surgeons used a plastic implant to fill the hole in his skull where the brain had been and stretched his scalp over his new skull.

Incredibly, not only did Ahad retain sufficient mental faculties to speak, walk and live a normal life, he managed to graduate from his local University with an honour degree.

Vesna Vulovic

It was 26 days into 1972, when 22 year old flight attendant, Vesna Vulovic found herself at 33,000 feet in the air and quickly descending to the earth without a parachute. JAT Flight JU 367 had been cruising over Srbska-Kamenice (now the Czech Republic) when an explosion occurred (The terrorist group, Croatian National Movement was named as responsible for the deaths of all but one) and as astonishing as it sounds V.V. survived with a “fractured skull, two broken legs and three broken vertebrae, which left her temporarily paralyzed from the waist down. She regained the use of her legs after surgery and continues to fly sporadically” She holds the Guiness World Record for the highest freefall.

Aron Ralston

Aron’s hand "died" from lack of circulation and, after 5 days’ trying to lift and break the boulder, dehydrated and facing certain death, Aron chose a final option that made him an international sensation - to free himself, he had to amputate his lower right arm!

Bowing his arm against a chock stone, Aron snapped the radius and ulna bones. In a one-hour operation, he applied a tourniquet, used the dull blade of his multi-tool to cut the soft tissue around the break, and the tool’s pliers to tear at the tougher tendons. The tools Aron used to amputate his own arm: a tourniquet made from climbing gear, and the pliers and blade of a multi-tool

Shannon Malloy

Shannon Malloy was in a car crash that caused her to be internally decapitated; her spine was separated from her skull and all connecting ligaments and tendons were cut loose. Despite this, she managed to survive. Shannon had to endure several surgeries, one “fusing her skull to her spinal cord; she suffered nerve damage that made her eyes constantly cross and limited her speech ability. Her pelvis and ankle were severely broken, but could not be repaired until swelling in the brain and spinal cord reduced” (Associated Content).

 Roy C. Sullivan

The chances of being struck by lightning are very slim; the chances of being struck by lightning twice (on different days) is seemingly impossible; so what are the odds of being struck by lightning seven times? With our world record holder, Roy Sullivan, the events happened as follows:

1942 – Sullivan was hit for the first time when he was in a lookout tower. The lightning bolt struck him in a leg and he lost a nail on his big toe.
1969 – The second bolt hit him in his truck when he was driving on a mountain road. It knocked him unconscious and burned his eyebrows.
1970 – The third strike burned his left shoulder while in his front yard.
1972 – The next hit happened in a ranger station. The strike set his hair on fire. After that, he began to carry a pitcher of water with him.
1973 – A lightning bolt hit Sullivan on the head, blasted him out of his car, and again set his hair on fire.
1974 – Sullivan was struck by the sixth bolt in a campground, injuring his ankle.
1977 – The seventh and final lightning bolt hit him when he was fishing. Sullivan was hospitalized for burns in his chest and stomach.

Ann Hodges

Sylacauga, Alabama 1954. While Hodges was napping on her living room couch, a grapefruit-sized meteoroid crashed through her roof and ricocheted off her large wooden console radio, before it struck her on the arm and hip. She was badly bruised but able to walk. The Air Force arrived and took the meteorite from her. Ann’s husband, Eugene, hired a lawyer to get it back. Then the landlord claimed it, wanting to sell it in order to cover the damage done to the roof. By the time the meteorite was returned to Ann and Eugene (over a year later) public attention had diminished and they were unable to find a buyer willing to pay much for the 8.5 pound alien chondrite rock. Against her husband’s wishes, Ann donated it to the Alabama Museum of Natural History, where it can be seen today.

Ben Carpenter

When crossing the street in Paw Paw, Ben Carpenter, 21 years old and wheelchair bound, was “picked up” accidentally by a truck. He was pushed by the semi-truck for 4 miles at 50mph, after the arms of his wheelchair got stuck in the grill. The story goes that the driver had stopped at a red light, and couldn’t see Carpenter crossing in front of him. The light changed and Carpenter ended up having the ride of a lifetime. “What I learned is that I never would want to be a Hollywood celebrity,” he said after all the fuss being made by TV and newspapers. “I don’t know how they do it with the TV cameras and people taking their picture all the time. I went through it, and it was OK for a while, but a couple days was enough.” (Kalamazoo Gazette)

Phineas Gage

On September 13, 1848, Gage (a railway worker) was packing a hole with gunpowder, adding a fuse and sand, and then packing the charge down with a large tamping iron. The gunpowder ignited and the iron bar shot through his left cheek bone and exited out the top of his head, and was later recovered some 30 yards from the site of the accident. Within minutes he was up and walking. A few days later he had fungus of the brain. A couple of weeks after, 8 fluid ounces of pus from an abscess under his scalp was released. Damage to Gage’s frontal cortex had resulted in a complete loss of social inhibitions, which often led to inappropriate behavior. He was no longer the same Gage that his friend’s and family knew. Today his skull and the iron bar that shot through it are on display at Boston’s Warren Anatomical Museum.

Good Facts About Chocolate

Honestly, I love this yummy thing so much, and these fact make me love it more and more... I don't need to worry again, for chocolate lovers check this one out (it's absolutely recommended guys!) ^^

Chocolate is not only known for its rich delicious flavor, but also for its high antioxidant content. There are several health benefits and advantages of eating chocolate. Research has proved that eating moderate amounts of chocolate can elevate moods  and is even good for your heart. Chocolate is a rich delicious product of the cacao tree. Pure chocolate is produced from cocoa beans, which are fermented, roasted, ground and liquefied into chocolate liquor. The liquor is further processed into cocoa solids and cocoa butter. These two components are actually pure, unadulterated chocolate. The chocolate we eat is more of a processed product as it contains sugar, milk and fats.

A Brief History of Chocolate

The cacao tree has been mainly grown in Central and South America since 1100 BC. Mesoamerican civilizations including the Maya and the Aztec made chocolate beverages from cacao beans. The Aztecs called the beverages “xocolatl” which means “bitter water”. According to sources, the word chocolate stems for this Aztec word.

Chocolate was first introduced to the European nations by Spanish conquistadores in the 16th century. The Spanish made the “bitter water” into a delicious concoction by adding ingredients like vanilla and cinnamon.

Today, chocolate is one of the most popular flavors in the world. In the west, it is mainly consumed in the form of milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is prepared by mixing milk solids, cocoa butter and sugar. Dark chocolate contains around 15 percent concentrated chocolate liquor and sugar.

Health Benefits of Chocolate

Although chocolate is known for its rich taste, there are also many health benefits of eating chocolate. With a high cocoa content, dark chocolate is a great source of flavonoids, gallic acid, and epicatechin and is thought to be very good for the heart. Here are some other key benefits of dark chocolate:

1. Chocolate may be good for your heart:
Preliminary research studies claim that chocolate and other cocoa products may have circulatory benefits. A study presented at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s claimed that eating flavonoid-rich foods, including chocolate, ensured low risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Dark chocolate contains higher amounts of flavonoids than milk chocolate. However, through the manufacturing process chocolate syrups and processed cocoa powder removes much of the antioxidants. To experience chocolate in its unadulterated form, you'd have to by cocoa beans or raw, unprocessed cocoa powder.

2. Chocolate lowers LDL cholesterol:
Studies have suggested that eating dark chocolate can reduce bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol). An Italian study published in the August 2005 issue of the Hypertension Journal revealed that eating dark chocolate can lower LDL cholesterol levels by 10 percent. In a study, Pennsylvania State University researchers have also found that people who consumed flavonoid-rich dark chocolate have higher levels of good cholesterol compared with people in the control group.

3. Eating Chocolate may lower your blood pressure:
One of the key benefits of dark chocolate is healthy blood pressure. Cocoa contains a substance that processes a compound called nitric oxide. This substance helps in maintaining healthy blood pressure and blood flow.
Moreover, the flavonoids in chocolates prevent blood clots as they do not allow fatty substances in the bloodstream to oxidize the arteries.

4. Eating chocolate reduces stress:
Eating a bar of chocolate may lift your mood. Many researchers confirm the anti-depressant qualities of chocolates. A study conducted on 3,000 subjects by the Black Dog Institute found that almost 45 percent people with depression improved their mood after having chocolate. The main component behind chocolate’s anti-depressant properties is serotonin, a neurotransmitter. Chocolate also stimulates the production of endorphins, which can induce feeling of pleasure. Scientists have found that the endorphins and opoids in chocolates makes people feel less anxious and worried and makes them relaxed.

5. Chocolate is rich in Antioxidants:
The high flavonoid content in chocolate, particularly dark chocolate and cocoa powder, can not only relax blood pressure, but also may protect your body from aging. A study conducted by researchers of the University of Scranton confirms the high antioxidant content in chocolate. Flavonoids (or flavonols) in chocolate acts as antioxidants and fights against free radicals.

But what about the fat?

Chocolate bars and candies are notorious for having high fat content. But the good news is that some types of fat do not affect your cholesterol. Fat in chocolate is mainly stearic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid. Of the three, oleic acid is monounsaturated fat whereas stearic acid and palmitic acid are saturated fats. However, some researches show that stearic acid does not impact your cholesterol. While the palmitic acid is unhealthy, it is in small enough amounts that it is unlikely to do much damage as long as chocolate is enjoyed in moderation.
We'd say it's safe and even heatlhy to enjoy a chocolatey treat every now and then. However, consult your doctor if you have concerns about your diet.

Dyslexia, a Disastrous Disability

I watched a movie several times ago, the title was Taare Zameen Par (Every Child is Special) an Indian movie about a child who had dyslexia symptom. Then, I want to know more about this symptom, I've heard about it but I never know what exactly dyslexia is, if you want to know too just check this one out...

What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia has been around for a long time and has been defined in different ways. For example, in 1968, the World Federation of Neurologists defined dyslexia as "a disorder in children who, despite conventional classroom experience, fail to attain the language skills of reading, writing, and spelling commensurate with their intellectual abilities." According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, dyslexia is a learning disability that can hinder a person's ability to read, write, spell, and sometimes speak. Dyslexia is the most common learning disability in children and persists throughout life. The severity of dyslexia can vary from mild to severe. The sooner dyslexia is treated, the more favorable the outcome; however, it is never too late for people with dyslexia to learn to improve their language skills.

Children with dyslexia have difficulty in learning to read despite traditional instruction, at least average intelligence, and an adequate opportunity to learn. It is caused by an impairment in the brain's ability to translate images received from the eyes or ears into understandable language. It does not result from vision or hearing problems. It is not due to mental retardation, brain damage, or a lack of intelligence.

Dyslexia can go undetected in the early grades of schooling. The child can become frustrated by the difficulty in learning to read, and other problems can arise that disguise dyslexia. The child may show signs of depression and low self-esteem. Behavior problems at home as well as at school are frequently seen. The child may become unmotivated and develop a dislike for school. The child's success in school may be jeopardized if the problem remains untreated.

What causes dyslexia? What are the different types of dyslexia?

There are several types of dyslexia that can affect the child's ability to spell as well as read.
"Trauma dyslexia" usually occurs after some form of brain trauma or injury to the area of the brain that controls reading and writing. It is rarely seen in today's school-age population.

A second type of dyslexia is referred to as "primary dyslexia." This type of dyslexia is a dysfunction of, rather than damage to, the left side of the brain (cerebral cortex) and does not change with age. Individuals with this type are rarely able to read above a fourth-grade level and may struggle with reading, spelling, and writing as adults. Primary dyslexia is passed in family lines through their genes (hereditary). It is found more often in boys than in girls.

A third type of dyslexia is referred to as "secondary" or "developmental dyslexia" and is felt to be caused by hormonal development during the early stages of fetal development. Developmental dyslexia diminishes as the child matures. It is also more common in boys.
Dyslexia may affect several different functions. Visual dyslexia is characterized by number and letter reversals and the inability to write symbols in the correct sequence. Auditory dyslexia involves difficulty with sounds of letters or groups of letters. The sounds are perceived as jumbled or not heard correctly. "Dysgraphia" refers to the child's difficulty holding and controlling a pencil so that the correct markings can be made on the paper.

What are the signs and symptoms of dyslexia?

Classroom teachers may not be able to determine if a child has dyslexia. They may detect early signs that suggest further assessment by a psychologist or other health professional in order to actually diagnose the disorder. Letter and number reversals are the most common warning sign. Such reversals are fairly common up to the age of 7 or 8 and usually diminish by that time. If they do not, it may be appropriate to test for dyslexia or other learning problems. Difficulty copying from the board or a book can also suggest problems. There may be a general disorganization of written work. A child may not be able to remember content, even if it involves a favorite video or storybook. Problems with spatial relationships can extend beyond the classroom and be observed on the playground. The child may appear to be uncoordinated and have difficulty with organized sports or games. Difficulty with left and right is common, and often dominance for either hand has not been established. In the early grades, music and dance are often used to enhance academic learning. Children with dyslexia can have difficulty moving to the rhythm of the music.

Auditory problems in dyslexia encompass a variety of functions. Commonly, a child may have difficulty remembering or understanding what he hears. Recalling sequences of things or more than one command at a time can be difficult. Parts of words or parts of whole sentences may be missed, and words can come out sounding funny. The wrong word or a similar word may be used instead. Children struggling with this problem may know what they want to say but have trouble finding the actual words to express their thoughts.

Many subtle signs can be observed in children with dyslexia. Children may become withdrawn and appear to be depressed. They may begin to act out, drawing attention away from their learning difficulty. Problems with self-esteem can arise, and peer and sibling interactions can become strained. These children may lose their interest in school-related activities and appear to be unmotivated or lazy. The emotional symptoms and signs are just as important as the academic and require equal attention.

Well, that's a 'lil bit about dyslexia hopefully this article can add your knowledge about this symptom.

Peace Symbols

There are some symbols or signs to say “peace”, do you know all of them? If you really wanna know, let’s check this one out…

This most widely known peace symbol was originally the anti-nuclear emblem. It was invented on the request of Lord Bertrand Russel, head of the British ‘Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’ (CDN). The symbol is derived from semaphore signals (just like we learned in scouts, in Indonesia we have Pramuka) for the letters ‘N’ and ‘D’ standing for Nuclear Disarmament. The Peace Action Symbol was designed on February 21, 1958 for use in the first Peace Walk in England.

Are you familiar with the V for Victory symbol? It is thought to have begun in Europe during World War II. The V for Victory was painted on walls as a symbol of freedom from occupying forces. The sign was once again widely used by peace movements in the 1960s and 1970s as a symbol of victory for peace and truth.

The olive wreath originated in Greece and was the highest award given to a citizen in ancient Greece. The prize was also given to winners at the ancient Olympic Games as a symbol of victory. Greeks considered the olive tree as the most valuable gift, a symbol of peace, sustenance, and life. In the Olympics, it’s given for the idea of peaceful competition through sport.

The Peace Crane (origami). In Asia the white crane is the bird of peace in terms of prosperity and friendship. The origami crane became popular after bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1955, when an eleven year old Japanese girl was diagnosed with leukemia from exposure to nuclear radiation, she heard that if she folded a thousand paper cranes (origami), she would be granted a wish. She began folding one crane after another wishing for a health body within a world of peace. Would you like to know how to make a Peace Crane? Search You Tube –How To Make An Origami Peace Crane OR go to – http://monkey.org/~aidan/origami/crane/

The white dove carrying an olive branch has been the symbol of peace and hope for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians saw the dove was as symbol of quiet innocence. The Chinese felt the dove was a symbol of peace and long life. To early Greeks and Romans, doves represented love and devotion and care for a family. In some other religions an olive branch is a sign for peace and good will.

A Tragic Destiny of "The Unsinkable Ship"

Have you ever heard about Titanic? I bet you have.
Have you ever seen the movie version of Titanic? Once again, I bet you have.
Yes, Titanic is the most famous legendary ship ever. It filmed in 1997 by James Cameron, as we know the story of the movie is fiction include the main characters like Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio),but the characters like the captain of the Titanic, Captain Edward James Smith (Bernard Hill), Margaret "Molly" Brown (Kathy Bates), Thomas Andrews ((Victor Garber) and Bruce Ismay (Jonathan Hyde) are not fiction, they were exist and they were the part of this legendary ship.

Titanic, the "unsinkable" ship
Titanic, movie version

Well, I wanna remind you a little bit about this legendary ship which sank in Atlantic Ocean. Titanic was owned by White Star Line, constructed in Ireland, and it was a passenger liner. It struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage (it was so tragic, wasn't it?) from Southampton, England to New York City, America and sank on 15 April 1912. More 1.500 passengers and the crews dead because of that tragically accident.

The body of Titanic in the bottom of Atlantic Ocean is a treasure, but actually it is predicted that it will lost forever in 2030 (another tragic destiny). Two scientists, Dr Hensaatrietta Mann and Bhavleen Kaur from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada together with the researchers from Sevilla University, Spain found bacteria which eat the body of Titanic, Halmonas titanicae. They have been eating 50.000 ton of copper since Titanic sank. Mann predicted Titanic has only 15-20 years more, after that it will lost. So, it is predicted that the ship which ever called "The Unsinkable" ship will become a memory in 2030. When it does, watch Titanic movie will be more meaningful.

I Love This

I fell in love with this song when I listened to this song for the first time. Performed by my favorite band, Picture Me Broken. The title is Forevermore, and I guess that this song can represented one of my freak feelings, and it's dealing with creepy stuff called "love and heart". And i hope, someday I could sing this song right in front of the one that I really love (but i haven't met him yet, LOL). Well, just wanna make someone know about my feeling trough a song is not bad i think even a song can say more than what I can say trough the words themselves... Now, here we go... :)

All I feel is everything
I can’t invent the words to tell you
I never cared for anything
But if you left I’d never let you
I’d hold your heart inside a death grip
Till my fingertips turned bloody black and blue

[Chorus:]
The rest of this heart lies
in your darkened eyes, awake
I’ll never lie, never leave, so I can always say
You wont be alone again as long as I’m awake
So never lie, never leave, forevermore with me

This became a part of me,
Your blood is in my veins, once incomplete
Promise to have faith in me,
Retrace your steps you’ll always find me
I found you one foot out the window pane
I’m never too far out of reach, escape

[Chorus]

Forevermore
I’ll follow your
Every word until
My eyes can’t see
Till my lungs can’t breathe
Till my heart wont beat anymore

[Chorus]
