Chasing Paradise in Jogja

Refreshing is something that everyone needs to get a new spirit and “escape” for a while from the boring daily routine. To reduce the stressful mind or heavy burden, an amazing beautiful place will do. Last month, I found one of places that can help to refresh my chaotic mind because of my monotonous daily activity, college. This place is a beach lies in Gunung Kidul Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Well, I love beach very much that’s why I always choose it to be visited when I need to refresh my mind. Especially beaches in Wonosari Gunung Kidul Yogyakarta, because they are extremely beautiful.

Ngandong, Sadranan and Krakal
Sunset at Sadranan Beach

My last visit was different, it was greater than before. Felt like I had a short holiday in my own paradise, LOL. But that’s what I felt, more than awesome! My friends (actually they are couple), my lover and I visited Sadranan Beach, one of white-sandy beach that can be found in Wonosari. It was recommended by a friend of mine, and that time we spent three days there. Don’t think that we rented a motel, inn or villa. FYI, there are some motels or inns that can be rented (especially in Kukup Beach, Krakal Beach, Indrayanti Beach or Parangtritis Beach) the price more or less about one hundred thousand rupiah per night, on weekend most of them are booked. There’s a good villa in Sadranan Beach that can be rented (14 million rupiah per night, what the…?) and it’s usually rented by rich or famous person, I heard that one of famous Indonesian female actress had rented it twice. Back to topic, we didn’t rent motel, inn or villa (we must be crazy if we rented the villa) because we brought our own “villa”, the tents. The best thing about Sadranan is: there are so many spots that can be used to build a tent to spend the night near the beach.
In front of "14 million per night villa"

The tents as free shelters

On the night we could lay on the sand and see the sky with its stars, we could see the lamp of the ship on the sea from distance, we could feel the wind, and hear the sound of the waves, everything felt so amazing there. Unfortunately we couldn’t make a campfire because it rained and we had to go inside the tent and took a rest after had a long trip for more than 7-8 hours from Semarang. We recharged our energy for the next day.

Jump jump jump!!!

In the morning we woke up, looked outside the tent and the beach greeted us warmly. We enjoy the view, explored the beach (Sadranan is between Krakal Beach and Ngandong Beach), explored the big coral, found a whole and there was a sea-snake. And one more important thing: took so many photographs, LOL. When we already tired and staving, we cooked the meal near the tent and ate together. I still remember that time, there’s nothing we can feel but happiness. Everything was so great, and we didn’t think about college, final project or work at all. Just like a song, felt like summer paradise.
Do whatever we want

In the afternoon when the sun was not too hot we swam on the beach, enjoy the salty-water and the waves. Actually Sadranan and nearby beaches are not good for swimming, they have so many corals along the beach and a little bit dangerous (you might be bleeding because of that). Since it was ‘paradise’, playing with the water was enough. The sun set and we took a bath in public bathroom (this is another best part of Sadranan beach). On the night we cooked again for our dinner and sat together near the beach. We were talking about everything until late at night.
Part of Ngandong Beach
The last day, we packed all the stuffs and prepared to go back. It is suck when we know that something awesome has to be ended. We back to Semarang with this route: Gunung Kidul – Wonosari – Yogyakarta – Klaten – Boyolali – Salatiga – Bawen – Ungaran – Semarang. We took a break in Salatiga to enjoy coconut water, that was nice. Finally we arrived at six in the evening. Absolutely we were tired, but the experience could be the best healer.
Must-visit place, we'll come again someday :)
FYI, if you want to feel the “paradise” in Sadranan too, you can meet Mbah Sugeng (an old man who stays there). He can give a safe place to keep your vehicles (especially motorcycle), and some woods to make campfire on the night. He will also show the spot where you can build your tent safely. Just try and feel the paradise ^o^v

2nd Climbing: Ungaran Mt

“Hold my hand, let’s walk together. We’ll go to the top together, no matter how hard the journey is…”

Banzai!!! Finally, I climbed a mountain again. This time, I climbed Ungaran Mt, it’s 2050M asl. With “NgikNgok-Pala edition” (Pasku as the expert, Nopai, my BF and I) we reached the summit of this mountain. Absolutely, that was great yoy! On Saturday until Monday (12th and 13th of January 2013) we had awesome time together, even though the weather was not good it was not strong enough to beat our spirit.
Pasku, Nopai, Me, and bebii Wildan :D

We started from Mawar Base Camp (finally I know this place by my own self, before this i just heard about this place) it located at the foot of Ungaran Mt, Sidomukti village Jimbaran Bandungan Ungaran Central Java. The track of this mountain is good enough for newbie like me, good for hiking and the view is so damn beautiful. Unlike my previous experience, the journey was better because it wasn’t raining, just the wind. My style is “snail” mode, honestly I like this style because I can enjoy every single part of my journey. Besides, I can manage my energy well. For me, enjoy the journey is the point of climbing a mountain. The summit will never run away, even though we don’t run to reach it.

We arrived in a place that has a swimming pool, I wanted to swim there. The water is green and so cold. We took a break and (of course) some photographs. Then we continued our journey happily (indeed, it was a happy hiking I ever had).

The next destination for our break was the tea plantation right after we passed the coffee plantation. The view was more than just beautiful. Unfortunately the mist started to come and blocked our sight. I only could see more or less 30meters from where I stood, a ‘lil bit horrible. There’s a junction on the tea plantation, right is Promasan (it’s a village) and left is the peak of Ungaran Mt. Ok, crystal clearly we wanted the “summit attack” so we turned left. Another break we took before we passed the real track of the journey, my friend said that the real track would be started after pos Buka’an (one of shelters that can be found on Ungaran Mt), and the previous track was for warming up.

My first summit attack was done amazingly. But honestly, the track was harder than before (my friend was right, he’s the expert about this! No doubt about that. ), fortunately I didn’t have to pass it by myself, hehe… I had to be careful because of the slippery track and there were too many toppled trees that blocked the track.
The track is hard

Toppled trees

Before reached the top, I took a rest and found a beautiful flower on the grassy place. Only one flower and it surprised me. I think, took a break and photograph would do no harm, LOL.

It was getting harder because of the rough wind, I thought it was hurricane! The mist got tighter and I almost couldn’t see the track. Once more, I was lucky ‘cause I didn’t have to face all of those horrible things by myself.
Then, we made it!!! We reached the top, but it was ZONK! We couldn’t see anything from the top in spite of the tight mist. We found a place to build the tent, and there were so many options because there were no other hikers there. My friend said, “Only crazy hikers who wanna camp here in a weather like this.” Ok, we’re totally crazy dude!
Learn how to build a tent

No matter what happened around us, we still had a good time there. We had everything; the warmth, togetherness, happiness, spirit, love, comfortable shelter, and enough food. We were the happiest crazy hikers ever I guess, LOL. The point is: we were very happy.
Bad weather, good mood :p

Ungaran Mt's summit

One important thing we missed was the sunrise, what can I say? It was raining in the morning and it goes without saying the sun couldn’t be seen. We just took some photographs and tried to handle the extreme weather up there. Then we decided to go down that morning. Actually I still had a happy trek. I really enjoyed it, every single minute of it. Finally, we reached Promasan and took a rest in "Camp Biyung". The owner gave us shelter and food. I realized that I was so hungry, since I hadn’t had my breakfast. That was a big mistake. I promise myself that I will never let myself hungry when climbing a mountain. After had lunch, I felt so unwell and didn’t feel up to continue the trek. That was awful when I had to vomit in a yucky public restroom.
Felt unwell, but good enough for photograph -_-

I forced myself to continue, the spirit that given by my only one when he held my hand and the beauty of tea plantation’s view healed me little by little. I felt better after walked together with him more or less for one and a half hours, amazing ‘aight? I could take some photographs with a smile on my face again, LOL.

Another thing we missed was exploring Goa Jepang because of the tight mist, almost the same with what happened to the sunrise. It’s Ok, we’ll come again someday.
There was no break on the way back, until we reached Mawar Base Camp. We spent the twilight together and enjoyed the view. We back to Semarang again that night.

the hidden double date, LOL

That was the nicest weekend I had with my lover and my friends. Honestly, we were on a mission, to have a date together in a good place. Hell yeah, that was an awesome date. A hidden double date on Ungaran Mt, cool wasn’t it? LOL.

Watch Your Kids, Seriously!

Today is 21st of December 2012, some said it would be the doomsday. It goes without saying that the prediction is not true, it's just hoax because I still alive and write this article, LOL. Actually I will not write about the end of the world or doomsday, just wanna share what I have in mind about the phenomenon around us.

I just watched a new released movie entitled "5cm." in one of cinemas in the city where I stay now. Ok, in short this movie is about friendship, dream and (of course) love. Simple and nothing weird about the topic, but in the movie there're some scenes that shouldn't be watched by the young/ underage movie lovers. That's the reason why this kind of movie is tended to teenagers (that's what I read on the censorship screen). But gee... right beside me there were two children, they're crystal clearly underage and I guess they're just elementary students. That's so pity because this movie is not proper to be seen by them. Not about the story or genre, but there're some scenes which are inappropriate for them. How come? Even they watched it without adult advisory (at least their parents).

In the beginning, there're so many jokes and humors, so I laughed with almost all of the people inside the cinema, and of course those two children too. The worst part happened when they laughed too much because the actor was thinking about G-string. G-string! Did they really know the meaning of it? I don't get it, what's eating those children's parents so they let their children watched that! They're just kids, and it's not right, it's too early if they knos stuff like "that". Even I (as an adult) have never seen "it" directly, LOL.

I wonder who will take responsibility about this case. This is so serious, how could the children entered the cinema which showed a teenager movie? Where's the power of the rule? How about the bureucracy? What about the management? What will be happen to our next generation if no one cares about this case?

Hopefully, there's no more "idiot" parents out there, who let their children get something inappropriate for their age without advisory. Good parents must pay extra attention about their children's growth including what they learn and what they get.

My 1st Climbing: Sindoro Mountain

“Finally I can see… everything from above, on the high place called mountain…”
(Sindoro Mountain)

First of all I’d like to thank God cause finally I made it… I climbed Sindoro Mountain with my own feet, Yatta!!! That was great, undefined, awesome and cool. Sindoro has hypnotized me with its breath taking beauty. I love it, so much. I got my magic moment there, with the one I love so much (I guess it was the best part).
On 15th and 16th of December 2012, I was there. In advance there were only three persons but in the end there were fourteen! Amazing, I got more friends there, nice. The planner said that we would climb before afternoon, but it was rain. We could do nothing but wait in the Kledung base camp. We started the journey from Watu Gede (the gate to the Sindoro Mountian) at 6 pm, and then it happened… I was shock, like I wanted to lose my consciousness (well maybe because I did exercise not so often) I took a break so many times and my breath was getting harder and harder. I thought that I couldn’t continue the journey but my heart and mind told me to go on. I forced myself to continue my journey, ‘because I didn’t wanna give up just like that. I looked back and saw my lover came (in the same condition as mine), and I realized why don’t we walk together? Unbelievable, step by step, slow but sure we did it. I know that he gave me more strength to go on, we did it together.
Because “snail” mode on, we were parted with the first team and we got lost, nice! We didn’t pass first and second shelters. My friend (the only expert in my team) led us to find the way, we chose the wrong route and unfortunately we took the extreme one. Was it my good luck or bad luck? As my first climbing, I got the hard one, gee… the track was much harder than the right one, we found the dead end several times and had to find another way. I remember it was 11 pm when we took a break and began to think about giving up. I just stopped on the slope, take a deep breath, enjoyed Sumbing Mountain and the lights below from where I stood, and held his hand to strengthen ourselves. We decided to continue and one of us found the right way, we could saw the first team gave the sign with their flashlight. I was glad even though we were on different hills. The sweeper “snail” team reached the camp on shelter 3 at 12.30 pm, and it was cold there. I just thought that my first climbing was too much, but I didn’t mind because it was the real adventure. Lost in a mountain at night and it was rain, sounds cool, LOL.
Because that was my first time, I learned how to survive in a low temperature, how to find a good place to spend the night, how to build a tent (I just watched actually), how to cooperate with others because we’re far from home, and so many things. In the morning I got a magic moment because I could see the amazing scenery from the high place with my only one. Enjoyed the natural scenery, fresh air and sweet sunshine together was one of beautiful things we had there. I do love mountain.

One thing I regret was: I didn’t join the “summit attack”. I was too exhausted so I couldn’t go to the top of Sindoro, I couldn’t see the highest place of this mountain or see edelweiss flowers, so sad. Someday I’ll be back and reach the top (with no wrong track, definitely). For the first time, for beginner like me, reach 2530 meter above sea level (m asl) was good enough.

All of us started to go down at 3 pm, and it was raining. There was no break, but still: slow but sure. We just needed more or less three hours to reach the base camp. Overall, Sindoro as my first mountain had given me a great experience that I’ll never forget. Now I’m heading to my next mountain, Ganbatte!!!
